CAITLIN FLOOD-MOLYNEUX
Caitlin Flood-Molyneux is a contemporary Welsh artist based in South Wales. Their practice explores how pop culture imagery connects with emotion and memory, using these associations to narrate personal experiences of hardship. Influenced by DADA and early Pop Art, they combine found imagery with abstract painterly forms to create a distinctive visual language. Historical images play a key role, embodying the memories the artist seeks to express. While deeply personal, the work invites viewers to form their own connections with these private yet universal moments.
Their process often begins with collage, selecting and recontextualising images that evoke strong memories or emotions. These scenes are then painted over using media such as oil paint and aerosol. The act of partially obscuring or disrupting the images becomes a creative moment, allowing Flood-Molyneux to express feelings ranging from love and loss to grief and anger.
The resulting works encourage both artist and viewer to reflect on the past, much like hearing a nostalgic song that brings a distant memory vividly back to life.
