Framing
A custom, gallery quality frame is the best way to elevate your new artwork. We offer framing for all of our prints for shipping within the UK only. Our gallery standard frames are handmade in the UK to our design by award winning craftspeople. They've made over 2 million frames so know what they're doing. If you have questions about ordering a framed print please email us at orders@theymadethis.co.uk.
Frames ordered through the website are 'Gallery frames' detailed below. We offer many other style frames, if you are interested in other framing options please get in touch and we can advise you. We can frame in hundreds of styles, colours and finishes, so the options are endless.
Gallery Frames
Our gallery quality frames use high-quality wood and have a contemporary finish. They have a modern, 22mm square profile and arrive with fixings ready to hang. These gallery frames come in painted white or black with a satin finish or oak with a matt varnish.
Exhibition box frames
A deeper frame we use in our exhibitions. These frames are deep set and have fillets that hold the print away from the glazing giving a lux finish.
Float Mounting
We often float mount artworks that have a deckled (rough cut) edge. The print looks like its suspended in the frame and has a shadow around the edge which gives a premium finish.
Window mount
You can opt for you artwork to be mounted in a window mount to create a visual separation between the print and frame. Each mount is machine cut from a high-quality board that meets strict conservation standards set by the Fine Art Trade Guild. The mount is 2600 microns thick and acid-free, which ensures the art is held away from the glazing and will not discolour over time.
Acrylic glazing
Our acrylic has 2mm crystal cast acrylic glazing, giving an optical clarity of 92% ensuring your print is displayed at its best. 99% UV protection reduces any potential damage from sunlight. This is much safer than glass and is 100% recyclable.
Cleaning instructions
Most of the time you'll only need to dust the front of your acrylic as dust gathers. If you need to clean it more throughly we recommend taking the frame off the wall to avoid it falling. The edges and corners can sometimes be sharp when you take the acrylic out of the frame so take extra care when handling the glazing.
Microfibre cloths are your best bet - one dry and one wet and wrung out, you don't want the cloth to be overly damp. The damp cloth also helps to remove any static build-up. Wipe gently across the surface, removing the dirt. Don't press too hard on the glazing, as this can cause minor surface imperfections. Next, dry it gently with the dry cloth to remove watermarks and remaining dirt.
Sustainability and the environment
We've ensured that our framing partners are ethically minded and have a robust environmental sustainability policy. They pledge to-
- plant 24,000 new trees every year
- recycle 100% of their waste
- source all wooden mouldings from suppliers who hold the PEFC™ and FSC chain of custody certifications
- use mounts from a supplier certified by the FSC™ Chain of Custody Scheme
