CHRIS F CLARK
Margate artist Chris F Clark loves bands. You’re almost guaranteed to bump into her at the loudest gigs around Thanet, usually down the front because she’s only 5’3. It is imperative that NOBODY tall stands in front of her and blocks the view of that’s happening onstage!
“Since the very beginning of my gig going days, (by the way let’s play a game and see if you can guess what that first gig might have been, and where?), band t-shirts have been a constant garment of choice. It’s always been a statement - of my identity, individuality, style and of pure love and adoration for not only the music/culture but the visual aspect of bands’ identity too, of the representative designs and slogans, their art and what it means, both to fans and the bands themselves.
I’ll usually buy a tee to show my support to the bands I love, especially with live music being a completely different industry these days, unless its - a: purple, b: a particularly terrible design or c: they only have it in an extra small (I mean come on!!). Band Tees til I die!!!”
Chris also loves birds. So why the hell wouldn’t she paint birds wearing band tees? This new series offers playful tributes to a universal garment that is also incredibly personal.
With an art practice spanning 3 decades, Chris has exhibited worldwide in both group & solo shows, including the Money Talks show at The Saatchi Gallery in London. She lives and works in Margate, Kent.
